DG Mark Wheeler in his latest bulletin has provided a number of major updates for members, namely the formation of a new Rotary Club format – Mana Tangata, yet to be ratified by Rotary International, which has been initiated by the Rotary Club of Otaki. This Club got down to 12 members, close to the cut off minimium set by Rotary International.

Under this initiative other small clubs will be invited to consider joining as “Chapters” of this new initiative in lieu of handing in their charter. A number of clubs in the District have reached this low threshold and will no doubt consider this move.  Michael Fagg, a former past President of the Rotary Club of Karori has been a member of the Otaki Club for some time. He is the new Secretary of the RC of Mana Tangata in Otaki.  A President, Treasurer and Secretary have been appointed for a three year term. We will no doubt hear more details in due course. Michael has appraised President David in the Karori Club of this new initiative in District 9940.

On the Insurance front, an issue which has caused some strife to many clubs over the past year and more, representatives from D9940 have joined other Districts in achieving a renewal of the Districts and Clubs insurances under a new blanket insurance covering public and general liability risks. The new cover has been arranged through broker AON, with Chubb as the insurer.  It commenced on 1 January 2022. This cover means that clubs and trusts are now insured by this policy with premiums paid by the District. So, that is good news and some commonsense has been restored on this issue for clubs across the country for their various operations.

In our next bulletin we will have more details around upcoming training programmes and District Conference in April.
