Hi to you all, trusting you are well. I am pleased to hear that a few of our members who have been recently unwell are improving and will be back with us at our meetings soon.

We had to curtail discussion on future directions for the Club at our last meeting on 9 May due to a low attendance. However, Past President David, in my absence, chaired an informal meeting following dinner with a sharing of views and comment on papers pre circulated to members. I understand that it was a very useful discussion to take to a rescheduled Club Forum which I propose to hold in late June.

These are challenging times for all Rotary Cubs especially in our capital city around membership, new directions, and looking for new projects to give Clubs fresh impetus and focus. We have been committed to support for the new Children’s Hospital in Wellington, and more recently to supporting ‘Lifting the Lid’ on Youth Suicide. It is important that we remain committed in our support for the latter project especially as intermediate schools in Wellington have expressed their wish to have counsellor services for children at risk.

Over the years, the Rotary Club of Karori has provided funding support to the Life Flight Trust in Wellington.  I am hoping that we will renew our drive to support this vital life saving service. The Life Flight Trust has an extensive coverage area in the lower North Island and across the Cook Strait to the top of the South. We look forward to engaging with their management and hearing how we can further partner with the Trust.
We also have a number of other potential initiatives that I would like to talk about at our Club Forum in June.

Next week, we look forward to hearing from one of our long serving members and local lawyer, Luke Yiavasis,  with his views on some aspects of the law in our country. That will be most interesting.

We are planning for our Rotary changeover on Saturday 24 June at Marsden and are in discussion with the Mt Victoria Club in the hope they can join us for that occasion.

Keep well. See you on Tuesday.

Regards
President Jay.
