Karori Rotarians welcomed back former member Michael Fagg to update members on Rotary International's worldwide campaign to control and progressively eliminate polio.
Now a member of Otaki Rotary, Michael and his wife, Heather - a nurse - continue their great work helping to eliminate this devastating disease. Their personal dedication to Rotary's programme includes going to India to participate personally in vaccination programmes.
Michael quoted Rotary International President John Germ who reports it is an exciting time to be a Rotarian - we are gathering momentum for the final race to the finish - the end of polio and the begnning of a polio-free world.
Since Rotary and its partners launched the Global Polio Eradication Initiative nearly 30 years ago, the incidence of polio has plummeted by more than 99.9 percent, from around 350,000 cases a year to 26 confirmed cases in 2016.
