The Club then devoted some time to discussing challenges put to Rotary by Paul Atkins, CE of Zealandia who spoke at our previous meeting. President Jim led the discussion around options of assisting Zealandia with marketing and telling their story; of looking at an economic analysis of Zealandia’s operations in Wellington – seen as more of a task for the Council and other parties to assist with; help with the preparation of their annual report; help with the planning and implementation of Zealandia’s 25 year celebrations in 2020; and a range of volunteering physical tasks to be discussed further with the Club.
President Jim indicated that he would circulate these ideas to the full membership for feedback. Meantime members at the meeting indicated they would like to arrange to visit the Discovery Area worked on by Rotary some years ago for an update and consideration of potential projects for further Club involvement. The Club noted a possible project initiative to provide accommodation facilities at Zealandia for students and others taking advantage of night time tours.
