It’s been a very active time for your board over recent weeks.

Firstly I wish to thank members attending our meeting on 14 February for endorsing the plan presented outlining a Future Approach for our Club. This affirmation was reached only after a very good level of questioning by all members. As a result our board has been busy putting the plan into action. In particular moving to increase our visibility in our community. An example is postings on the I Love Karori website suggesting opportunities for people feeling lonely to get out and join with others in activities they might have an interest in, see: https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1V513Z7FxM/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Secondly our recent business breakfast in association with our friends in the Port Nicholson Rotary Club was very well attended and we were rewarded with a very good presentation by our Finance Minister, Nicola Willis. Feedback from attendees was excellent.

Thirdly we are pleased that our invitation to community organisations to apply for grants is getting good visibility and a number of applications have already been received in advance of the closing date of 14 March.
Our Club has had a strong focus over many years in supporting activities for youth in our community and we are exploring ways in which we might gain greater impact through becoming more specific in the way we offer support. This could be through a combination of using the skills of those we have good relationships with as well as drawing on our member skills along with more targeted funding. In this regard our two speakers last week gave us some very interesting perspectives about young people needs as well as their contributions to their peers and the work of the “Y” as one organisation who we might beneficially partner with.

Regards, Allan
